James Chen is jumping back into the startup world, this time helping to make global trading easier at Flexport! More to come... Prior to his current role, James Chen was leading the innovation and development of a large scale global logistics and transportation system at Amazon. Before Amazon, James was senior executive officer at Rakuten and is known in the industry for his pioneering work in developing Rakuten's global e-commerce platform. James also established the San Francisco Agile Development Center, an organization pursuing technology innovation and global development coordination. James joined Rakuten through the 2009 acquisition of consumer loyalty platform company FreeCause (now Rakuten Loyalty), where he led the technology and product vision as well as managed development of the FreeCause loyalty platform. Prior to this, he was co-founder and CEO of CampusCraze, a college portal and internet ad platform startup acquired by Jenzabar in March 2000. At Jenzabar, James was named group CTO, overseeing the technical strategy, product roadmap and technology stack of 5 ERP systems, a business intelligent platform, and distance learning product lines for the higher education market space. James has over 15 years of management experience and 20 years of programming experience. He is motivated by challenging environments and high aspirations where his natural instinct, years of experience and insights can help execute and achieve the long term vision and goals. James is a native of Taipei, Taiwan and was raised in Chicago, USA. He graduated with a BS degree in Computer Science and Electrical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. James is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.
