Co-living is a term used to describe a home where two or more people who aren't family members live. In other words, people who aren't living alone or in a "traditional" family set-up.

The concept has been around since the 1980s when some of the first official co-living communities were created in Amsterdam. It was no longer expected that people would live with their parents, get married and then move out together to start their own family.
