Xara has been developing cutting edge software in the UK since 1981, making it one of the very earliest European software houses. Xara has developed a wide range of products covering the whole realm of publishing and graphics software and services.
Xara has a particularly strong technology and innovation history. It pioneered many of the graphics technologies and techniques now standard in the industry today such as anti-aliased vector graphics, vector transparency, object feathering, etc. Many of its user interface techniques have been adopted by the industry.
Xara has been involved in the Internet from the very beginning. Xara Networks, a subsidiary of the Xara Group, was a pioneer Internet provider in the mid 1990s (subsequently sold, no longer part of the Xara Group). Today Xara does most of its business via the Internet and has millions of online customers, worldwide. Current developments include Xara Online Designer, which provides Xara customers with the ability to edit their documents online in a browser, from any device.
In January, 2007, Xara Ltd was acquired by German multimedia company MAGIX and now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary.
In 2017 Xara handed over the distribution and marketing to MAGIX so that it could focus on its new Xara Cloud service.
Xara is now on a mission to help businesses transform the way they create, collaborate and control content to directly result in increased revenues and improved brand. Xara's goal is to create a world where combining Creative Design, Collaboration, and Corporate Identity is no longer a mystery.
