Ellyn Sheffield is CEO of Verb8tm, Inc., a technology company focused on captioning, transcription, data management, archiving and specialized transcription software (Saas). She was Managing Director of the International Center for Accessible Radio Technology (ICART) and founder of the Towson University Captioning Solutions (TUCS) Center. She has been Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on grants from the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research, the Maryland Industrial Partnerships, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Before coming to academia, she was a member of the research staff at Lucent Technologies and the Manager of the Subjective Audio Program at iBiquity Digital Corporation. She has been an audio consultant for National Public Radio, the National Association for Broadcasters, Consumer Electronics Association, iBiquity Digital Radio Corporation and Advanced Television Technology Center, specializing in digital broadcast transmission quality. She was a Research Professor at Towson University with interest areas in cognition, psychoacoustics, user-interface design, and experimental design. She has published articles in a wide range of journals including the Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education, the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting, and the Journal of Audio Engineering. Dr. Sheffield was honored in 2010 as Innovator of the Year by Maryland's Daily Record for her pioneering work with captioned radio. She received the Public Radio Engineering Award for contributions to the radio industry in 2004. She holds a PhD from Rutgers University, where she was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow.
