Bio

Tao Feng is the CEO and founder of VanceAI, a cloud-based AI photo and video enhancement platform he launched in 2020. Feng built the company from the ground up in China, assembling a small team of experienced AI researchers who designed and trained proprietary image-processing models from scratch. His technical background informed the company's core architecture decisions, including the development of CNN-based models that have since evolved toward diffusion-based approaches and hybrid architectures. Feng bootstrapped VanceAI entirely without outside capital, funding the research and hardware costs personally. He has described the research investment, particularly the cost of experienced AI researchers, as the most significant expense, rather than compute hardware. Under his leadership, VanceAI built a closed-loop model improvement system in which user ratings and before-and-after preferences are fed back into model retraining, enabling iterative quality gains over more than five years of operation. VanceAI reached its peak annual revenue of over $1 million in 2023, roughly three to four years after its 2020 founding, before declining as generalist AI platforms began offering competing image enhancement features. By mid-2026, the company had approximately 10 million registered users, around 2,300 2,500 paying customers, a team of 12, and a monthly revenue run rate of $35,000, annualizing to approximately $420,000. Feng is now pivoting the business toward video enhancement, having already attracted over 1,000 video processing users, and sees AI-generated video upscaling to 4K cinema quality as the company's primary growth opportunity going forward.
