JoyQR is a freemium QR code and bio link builder founded as a side project by Dante Colombatti, marketing design director at Riboli Family Wines of San Antonio Winery. Colombatti built the tool to solve a problem he encountered running marketing for Stella Rosa Wines, where he needed customizable, trackable QR codes for out-of-home media campaigns including billboards, TV commercials, transit, print, and packaging.
The company wrote its first line of code in May 2021, launched a beta MVP in April 2022, and officially launched publicly approximately five months before the January 2023 interview. Colombatti spent $113,000 building the MVP, working with a developer based in Slovakia named Daniel and one full-time engineer, also from Slovakia.
As of January 2023, JoyQR had 25 paying customers and 6,700 free users, generating approximately $140 per month in revenue. The platform had deployed 58 QR codes for Stella Rosa campaigns alone, recording 16,589 scans in the prior 30 days across 20 campaigns for that single brand.
