James Armijo is CEO of SmartCare, the leading cloud platform for childcare providers to modernize the management of their operations and education of young children. In his role, James directs the company’s strategy and manages operations. James joined Smartcare as President in April 2016. In that role, he led the product management team, moving the product from its beta launch to a product that is widely accepted by thousands of customers. He also led finance, closing two rounds of funding while providing recurring financial analyst and insights. He also led M&A, integrating the acquisition of Persoft (Childcare Manager and Rapid Tuition) and Preschool2Me (including KidKiosk). Prior to joining SmartCare, James was the Chief Operating Officer at PatientPop, the first company to provide a single SaaS platform to integrate all aspects of local marketing for healthcare practices. James helped the company complete a $13 million Series A, increase bookings and revenue by over 400%, and grew headcount to over 100 people. Prior to joining PatientPop, James worked for Kareo, a provider of cloud-based electronic healthcare records, practice management software and revenue cycle management solutions to healthcare providers. James served in a number of roles including as Vice President of Billing Services and Vice President of Sales and Service. In those roles James built and managed teams in M&A, demand generation, sales, customer success and operations, eventually comprised over almost 900 people in 4 countries and 7 time zones. Kareo successfully raised over $100 million in funding during that period. In addition to Kareo, James was the Senior Director of Business Operations and Inside Sales at 8x8 (NASDAQ: EGHT), a provider of cloud-based communication solutions to businesses. At 8x8, James oversaw a significant restructuring plan that turned 8x8 profitable while maintaining revenue growth of over 20% per year in its business division. James was responsible for a team of over 300 in sales, customer support, billing and shipping. James began his career as a research analyst for Engemann Asset Management, a small-cap growth fund with $500 million in assets under management, focusing on software-as-a-service companies. James holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Diplomacy and World Affairs with a concentration in Economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles. In his free time, James enjoys spending time with family, training for and racing in just about any time of endurance race he can do, cooking, and reading.
