Under Patrick Morley’s leadership, Carbon Black has grown from niche startup into an endpoint security leader. He joined the company as President and CEO in 2007 and, since then, has led an ever-expanding team through several major milestones including: a merger with Bit9, three acquisitions, a company transition to a SaaS model, a successful IPO on NASDAQ (in 2018) and, most recently, a $2.1 billion sale to VMware. Patrick now serves as Senior Vice President and General Manager for VMware Carbon Black, the company’s Security Business Unit. Today, VMware Carbon Black has more than 6,000 global customers, including one-third of the Fortune 100. The vision he set forth in Carbon Black’s early days (“creating a world safe from cyberattacks”) is being carried out today via a cloud-based endpoint protection platform that is and keeping millions of global endpoints out of harm’s way. With more than 20 years in leadership positions at technology companies, Patrick has been recognized as one of the industry’s most thoughtful and reputable leaders and is lauded by employees for his hiring policies, unwavering transparency and commitment to evolving company culture. He’s been named multiple times to “The Coolest Endpoint Security Leaders” list and has been noted as one of cybersecurity’s “SmartCEOs.” Patrick is a frequent speaker at industry events and often appears on national television to help educate the market on cybersecurity trends. Outside of VMware Carbon Black, Patrick serves as an advisor for early-stage tech startups. Previously, he was president and CEO of Imprivata Corporation, a leading provider of authentication, access management, and secure communication. He has held senior leadership positions with six venture-backed software companies, including three that had successful IPOs. As chief operating officer of Corel, he led the company’s global sales, marketing, and operations functions for the Americas, EMEA, and Asia. Morley played a significant leadership role in the company’s turnaround, acquisition strategy, and eventual IPO. He also held senior management positions at Macromedia, Allaire, Rational Software, and SQA. Patrick earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Providence College.
