Ricardo Jimenez-Peris

CEO at LeanXcale

BIO

Dr. Ricardo Jimenez-Peris is co-founder and CEO of LeanXcale, a startup developing an ultra-scalable SQL Operational Database with Analytical capabilities (HTAP database) and NoSQL capabilities (key-value data store). He was devoted to research how to scale transactional processing and data management for 20+ years. After a series of solutions, he found the perfect solution to scale transactional processing. This invention was filed at USPTO in 2011, after keeping it as a trade-secret for three years. He left his professor position at Technical University of Madrid (UPM) on mid 2015 to incorporate LeanXcale (a spinoff of the university) and be fully devoted to growing the company. He is a member of the expert group on Cloud Computing advising the European Commission. A summary of my previous life: He was a postdoc researcher at ETH Zurich (EHTZ) during 1999-2000 working on scalable database replication. This investigation was materialized in the Middle-R database replication system that incorporated new features such as full & partial replication, 1-copy-snapshot isolation, and geo-replication. The book "Database Replication" published by Morgan & Claypool Pub. in 2010 co-authored by him summarizes this research. In 2008 he started to work in large scale data streaming/complex event processing (CEP). This research was co-funded by the Stream EU FP7 project, acting as project coordinator. As a result of this research the StreamCloud system was created, the first system able to correlate and aggregate in real-time millions of events per second. Since 2008 he has been working on a new way to scale out transactional processing. This research is a result of the CumuloNimbo FP7 project in which he was the scientific and technical director. This project has yielded a new ultra-scalable transactional management system able to scale to millions of update transactions per second. The core inventions have been protected with several granted patents at USPTO and EPO.
